As part of our on going commitment to supporting our network of freelance linguists, Peak Translations has recently introduced a new service which allows interpreters to obtain a valid DBS check.
As Managing Director, Helen Provart, explained, “we were approached recently by one of our interpreters and asked whether we could help her renew her DBS certificate, as the system had changed and she was no longer able to apply for it herself as an individual. Instead, it has to be applied for by an organisation with a genuine requirement for needing the information, such as an employer.”
This, of course, causes an issue for anyone who works in a self-employed capacity. For an interpreter, especially those working in the public sector arena, a DBS check is often essential, as they can regularly find themselves in situations involving children or vulnerable adults, where safeguarding is a priority.
Peak recognises the importance of ensuring suitably qualified and verified interpreters are available to satisfy clients’ requirements and, as such, after the successful trial applying for a DBS check on behalf of one of our interpreters, we decided it would be a useful service for others in the industry to obtain and maintain their relevant security clearances.
The process is straightforward with the majority of the information processed via an online application form and ID verification carried out either in person at Peak’s offices or using an online verification service. Anyone interested in applying for a DBS check through Peak should contact our Careers team at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office on 01663 732074.
