Peak Translations expands the team with a new Project Manager

Peak Translations is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Project Manager, Iwona Skorbilowicz.

Iwona’s appointment follows a year of growth for the company.  As the pandemic hit, businesses sought to quickly react to making their working environments Covid safe for all employees and visitors. Peak Translations has played an important role in managing these projects at pace, ensuring Covid communications are translated for those who do not have English as a first language.

More recently, the company has secured contracts from companies who see the UK’s departure from the EU as an opportunity to develop business in non-English-speaking markets. With little experience of such markets, however, the country expertise offered by Peak Translations is invaluable.

Iwona’s arrival, therefore, could not be more timely!

Iwona is Polish by birth but has been living in the UK for over ten years. As well as her native Polish, she’s a fluent speaker of English and Russian, and is also learning to speak German.

Her interest in language is further illustrated in her choice of studies. She holds a BA (Hons) in Linguistics and Russian 2014-2020 (First), an MA Translation and Interpreting Studies (2.1) and a PhD in Polish Studies, all from the University of Manchester. Her work experience is equally impressive. She has volunteered as an interpreter at The Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg, organised workshops on translation at the University of Manchester and worked as an interpreter for Stockport Council.

Iwona explains why she was keen to join Peak,

“I’ve been on the interpreter scene for a while in the North West so I’m well-versed in Peak’s capabilities and professionalism. More than that, Peak’s Facebook posts really captured my interest.”

Along with her linguistic capabilities, Iwona’s PhD makes her well placed to deal with the challenges of project management.

As she explains,

“A PhD may well seem like a solitary undertaking but it does, in fact, require sound project management. It involves mediating between needs and expectations of funding bodies, supervisors, the reader and the researcher. You’re also solely responsible for coordinating time, knowledge, necessary tools and materials. They’re certainly skills I can put to good use at Peak.”

Reflecting on Iwona’s appointment, Helen Provart, Peak Translations’ MD, adds,

“Project management is one of the fundamental principles of our quality standards here at Peak. It’s critical for the smooth running of the project that translation, revision, queries and communication with the client are all dealt with in a timely manner.

“I’m so pleased that we piqued Iwona’s interest to join Peak! With her qualifications, love of language and life experience, I’m sure she will be a great asset to the team!”
